Biography: Mickey Stafko became a fixture as the boys’ basketball coach at Ziegler-Royalton Junior High School where he served for 30 years.  The first 7 years there Mickey was the 7th grade coach.  His 1966-67 team was 19-0.  He coached the 8th grade team for 23 years .  By 1988, his 8th graders had earned a record of 386-140.   9 times his teams were conference champions, they won 8 conference tournaments and 7 IESA Regional titles.  In 10 appearances in the IESA state tournaments, Mickey’s teams won the title in 1980-81, finished 2nd twice, 3rd place one  time, and 4th place twice.
