Biography: Keith Vernon was a retired physical education teacher whose dedication to the Wheeling High School basketball program was remarkable. When Wheeling High SChool opened in 1964, Vernon assumed the responsibility as scoreboard/clock operator. Two years later Vernon became the official scorer, a position he held through his induction. During his tenure as official scorer, Vernon kept the scorebook both home and away. Vernon missed only 12 road games as a scorer. When Wheeling initiated its Christmas Classic in 1978, Vernon was its scorer. Vernon scored every tournament game for this 16-team double elimination meet…that’s more than 400 games.  In his more than 25 years as Wheeling scorer, Vernon scored more than 1,200 games.  Keith Vernon died on May 16, 2016 at the age of 90.
