Biography:

At (Springfield) Southeast High School, McKay set a school record for career points with 1,107, and held the school record with 40 points in a game. He was a four-year letter-winner in basketball, a two-time unanimous first-team All-City pick and twice led the Springfield City Tournament in scoring. As a senior he was Capitol Conference Player of the Year, an All-State selection by the Champaign-Urbana News Gazette, Chicago Tribune and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. He received a scholarship from Illinois State University and earned four letters for the Redbirds. He was a two-year starter and two-year co-captain. McKay was the team’s assist leader and won the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1981. He was named to the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
