Biography:

In 2002, when you entered the town of Centralia by highway, you quickly knew where you were thanks to signs which greeted you – “Winningest Team in the Nation.” At least that was the case since 1961 Centralia graduate Olen “Butch” Border worked with the state legislature to have the signs erected at all four highway entrances. That’s not the only reason he’s so cherished by Centralia basketball players, coaches and fans. Border served as president of the All-Sports Booster Club at Centralia from 1995-2003 and headed up fundraising for the group. He was also president of the CHS Sports Hall of Fame, was a VIP award winner in 2001 and in 1996 was co-chairman of the 90 years of Orphans basketball celebration.

Border undertook the task of reorganizing the Orphans’ trophy case that is home to more than 400 trophies. He also found time to create the “Wall of Fame” for all of Centralia’s all-state players, state champions and all-state selections. Quite naturally, Border keeps records of America’s winningest basketball team. Border also found time to serve as a Centralia Township Clerk and Trustee and was a member of the Marion County Board.
