Biography: James Conklin was a varsity starter at Easton and Mason City High Schools from 1963-67. As a freshman at Easton, Conklin scored 469 points and nabbed 166 rebounds on a 17-11 team. The following year at Easton, Conklin scored 653 points and pulled down 322 rebounds for a 22-6 team. Conklin’s junior and senior years were at Mason City. He scored 603 points as a junior and 629 points as a senior on teams that were 23-4 and 19-5. Conklin was all-conference both years at Easton. He was also a four time all-county player. Conklin’s 2,344 points placed him 21st on the all-time Illinois High School Scoring List.  In successive years, he shot 44, 47, 52 and 45 percent from the field. Conklin was named to several all-state and little all-state teams as a junior and senior. At Illinois State, Conklin led the freshman team in scoring with a 17.2 average. Conklin transferred and was a three-year letterman at Northern Michigan University where he averaged 6.3 for his career. He was elected co-captain and was named to the NCAA Academic All-American Team.
