Biography: David Harris was a two-year starter at Pinckneyville High School, playing on an IHSA Regional Championship Team in 1958. He was named all-Southwest Egyptian Conference and was accorded all-state honors in 1959 when he was also the captain of the Panthers. At St Louis University, Harris set a freshman record of 45 points against Southern Illinois in 1960. In 1961 and 1963, Harris was a member of Billiken teams that competed in the NIT, finishing second in 1961. In 1962 Harris was all-tournament in the Los Angeles Classic. In 1963, he served as captain of the Billikens and was named the team’s most valuable player. He was the winner of the John E. McLaughlin Trophy for free throw accuracy. Harris capped the 1963 season by being named to the all-Missouri Valley Conference team.
