As a senior, Duis scored 510 points and grabbed 354 rebounds.

Duis played two years at Parkland Junior College and was co-MVP as a freshman. Duis was team captain as a sophomore and averaged 18 points and 7.4 rebounds a game. When Illinois coach Lou Henson was scouting other players in a game, he told Duis he had a spot for him if he walked on. Duis did his junior year, but passed on basketball as a senior to concentrate on his business-agriculture degree in preparation for leading the family farm at Woodworth.
