Biography: Gaston Freeman coached basketball for 28+ years at DePue, Streator and Maine West.  His teams won 560 games.  After serving as an assistant coach at Western Illinois University following his graduation, Gaston coached DePue’s Little Giants to a 160-30 record earning four regional titles but losing in the sectional finals three of those four years.  At Streator, while going 87-80, he produced two regional crowns.  In 1959 when Maine West opened its doors, Freeman took the basketball job and remained there for 20 seasons.  Gaston Freeman passed away on June 9, 2008 at the age of 86.
