Year Inducted: 1983

Category: Friends of Basketball

Schools / Organizations: Centralia High School

Biography: The late Dr. Orland Sanders began his service as physician at all home basketball games in the late 1930’s.  He also has been one of the major supporters of America’s winningest high school basketball programs – the Centralia Orphans. Countless times Sanders displayed his great loyalty to Centralia basketball by administering medical treatment and advice to their players and coaches. Basketball can have no better friend than Dr. Sanders and Centralia restaurateur John Hickey. Stories of their escapes from hospital beds and protective wives to attend Orphan games are classics and added much to the magic invoked by the mere mention of Centralia basketball.  Dr. Sanders died on March 11, 1983, just a few weeks before his induction.
