Biography: John Elder of Alexis has been involved with high school basketball as a player, official, coach, athletic director, school administrator and fan for more than 40 years. And there’s more years ahead. Elder and his wife of 44 years, Judy, have had two sons, a daughter and three son-in-laws coach basketball at the junior high level. Elder was also watching the third of his 14 grandchildren perform for their school teams at the time of his induction.  Elder helped administer the 3-point contest for the IHSA at the state tournaments since their inception and has aided in securing volunteers for the girls competition. Elder enjoyed the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with the IBCA in its award programs and promotion of activities. He was a fixture at IBCA Hall of Fame inductions at Illinois State University.  Elder has also served as a junior-senior high principal for 27 years and a superintendent for 11 year. Elder served the Illinois Coaches Association as All-Star Football Game Chairman since 1980 and chairman of the selection committee since 1975. A football coach for 29 years, Elder is a member of the Illinois Football Coaches Association and the recipient of its Ray Eliot (distinguished service) Award in 1987. He was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1989.  Elder has served the National High School of America Coaches Association in several capacities. Twice he was the president of the National Organization of Coaches Association Directors.
