Biography: Bert Bertine, the former sports editor of the Champaign-Urbana Courier, passed away far too prematurely a few years before his induction in 1973 (September of 1967).  Bert was the originator of the popular “Bert’s-I-Views” column and was at one time president of the Illinois Associated Press Sports Editors Association.  In addition to these honors, he was a director of the Football Writers of America, a member of the Basketball Writers of America,  and was elected Illinois Sports Writer of the Year in 1966.  Bert lived in Champaign and was a graduate of the University of Illinois.
