Biography: Dr. Victor Buehler is well-known as a high school basketball official and also as a high school administrator. He was the superintendent of the Simpson County (Kentucky) School District, Staunton, Pawnee and Cisne and served as an administrator at Granite City for 15 years. For 27 years, Buehler worked as an IHSA boys and girls basketball official. Buehler twice officiated state girls finals along with six super-sectionals and 10 sectionals. He also refereed eight years at the Mascoutah Girls Christmas Tournament. On the boys side of the ledger, tournaments drawing Buehler’s services included Macoupin County (5 years), Collinsville Christmas (7), Columbia-Freeburg Christmas (16), Winchester (1), Altamont (5), Edwardsville Christmas (3) and the Sparta Winter (4). Buehler also worked 20 IHSA Class A and AA regionals, four years of junior college men’s and women’s games and four years of men’s college games. Buehler was the eighth person to officiate state finals in three sports – basketball, football and baseball. Buehler said he treasured the many friendships he made with coaches, including IBCA Hall of Famers Vergil Fletcher (Collinsville), Lee Cabutti (Champaign) and Sherrill Hanks (Quincy).
