Jim Patterson was a top official for over 25 years in the Chicago area. He worked the city championship games, the state tournament series, and the Kankakee Holiday Tournament for 12 successive years. Jim served for over ten years as a rules interpreter for the IHSA. A graduate of Tilden Tech HS and the University of Illinois, Jim earned athletic fame as a track performer: State 100-yard dash champion in 1925 and 1926; a new intercollegiate 440 yard record at the Kansas Relays in 1930; ran on the world record tying 440 relay team (also in 1930). Jim was a great collegiate performer at the Kansas, Drake, Texans and Ohio State Relays.
