Biography: Jerry Alberts was a three-year varsity basketball letter winner at Lincoln (IL) High School and ranks high on the Railsplitter’s all-time scoring list. Alberts played with the 1951 Lincoln HS Sweet Sixteen team, which lost in the quarterfinals to Quincy 65-63 and was accorded all-tournament recognition.  In 1952, Alberts was a member of the University of Kansas NCAA championship team. In 1953 Alberts was a member of the Jayhawks’ NCAA finalists. At Kansas, Alberts was a teammate of legendary North Carolina coach Dean Smith, playing for the great Forest C. “Phog” Allen. At Lincoln, Alberts played for IBCA Hall of Fame member (Coach, 1975) Paul Johnson.  Jerry Alberts passed away on January 17, 2004.
