Biography: Carl played at (Rockford) Boylan Catholic High School where he was an all-conference player during his junior and senior years. He averaged 24.1 ppg. (603 points in 25 games) as senior and made First-Team All-NIC10 (1978-79). Carl moved a short distance to DeKalb where he was a two-time NIU team captain (1982-84). He lettered during his three seasons at Northern Illinois (1981-84) for head coach John McDougal (IBCA Hall of Fame inducted in 1974). He was a key reserve on NIU’s first NCAA Division I Tournament team (1981-82). For the Huskies he played in 92 games, scored 605 points (6.6 ppg. avg.), game out 284 assists and grabbed 198 rebounds. These performances earned Honorable Mention All-MAC for Carl as junior (1982-83). He finished the season ranked 13th in NCAA FT pct. (.865 on 83-of-96 FTA) which was best in the MAC. After his collegiate career, Carl had a successful coaching career at Winnebago HS, DeKalb HS, Rock Valley College, and NIU. Carl became an administrator and served as director of athletics with Rockford Public Schools (2008-11). He returned to NIU as associate athletics director (2011-13). In 2009, Carl and his 1982 Huskie teammates were inducted into the NIU Hall of Fame. Rock Valley College Athletics also inducted him in 2015.
