Jim Bragiel

Biography: Jim Bragiel was one of the all-time standouts at (Berwyn-Cicero) Morton High School in its legacy of great Illinois basketball teams. Bragiel twice was named to all-state basketball teams in 1950 and 1951 while playing at Morton under Hall of Fame Coach, James Vopicka. He was captain in 1951 and named Outstanding Athlete of the Year. Bragiel continued his basketball career at Northwestern University where he played four seasons. He also played four years of baseball at Northwestern. Following college days, Bragiel coached (Kewanee) Wethersfield High School and Palatine High School before serving Northwestern as an assistant basketball coach under Larry Glass from 1962-67. He then went into private business and was highly successful for 33 years in the insurance industry.  Jim Bragiel died on April 7, 2020 at the age of 87.
