Biography: Donald J. Matuszak was named All-Suburban League, and All-State Basketball Honors during his career at Morton of Cicero. On the No. 9 ranked team in the state, Matuszak played an integral role as Morton defeated the state’s top-rated team, LaGrange in 1954. At Kansas State University in 1958 Matuszak played in the NCAA Final Four against the likes of Seattle’s Elgin Baylor and Temple’s Guy Rodgers. Matuszak captained Kansas State in 1959 when it was named the No. 1 team in the nation. In 1959, Matuszak was named All-Big 8 and Honorable Mention All-American. For the second straight year, in 1954, Matuszak was named the most inspirational player at K-State. Matuszak was also voted Kansas State’s Most Outstanding Athlete in 1959.
