Biography: Many fans in the Chicago area consider Jo Ann Begrowicz one of the most dominant girls post players ever in high school while at St. Scholastica.  As a senior in 1977-78, Begrowicz averaged 23 points and 15 rebounds and was named to the Chicago Tribune All-State first team. She was named Tribune Athlete of the Week as St. Scholastica won the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC).  In her first three years at St. Scholastica, Begrowicz and her team placed second in the GCAC and the team was a regional runner-up as a junior.  Begrowicz was St. Scholastica’s career leading scorer and rebounder when she graduated as she averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds. She was invited to the Junior Olympic tryouts and earned St. Scholastica’s Outstanding Sportsmanship Award in 1978.  She received a full scholarship to DePaul University and led the Blue Demons to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament as a junior and was named to the all-tournament team. At DePaul, Begrowicz averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds and was named to the school’s Hall of Fame.  Later Jo Ann coached fifth-grade girls basketball at St. Emily School in Mount Prospect and softball in the Mount Prospect Park District.
