Biography: The 1931 State Basketball Champions were led by team captains, John Stuckey and Raymond Rex. John Stuckey was regarded as one of the best players in Central Illinois and Ray Rex was one of Decatur’s all time best athletes. Another outstanding athlete was Duane Garver, a guard, who would become nationally known for his tennis ability. The team compiled a record of 18 wins and 4 losses before entering the State Championship series. Their final record was 29-5. This was the first of Coach Gay Kintner’s championship teams.
