Biography: In 1960, (Chicago) Marshall High School won its second state title in three years, beating (Bridgeport) Red Hill High School 79-55 in the championship game. The Commandoes finished the season with a 30-2 record. Two players, 6’7″ center George Wilson and guard Eddie Jakes were named to the all-tournament team. Three others, Charles Jones, Edward Franklin and Kenneth Moses joined Jakes and Wilson as double-figure scorers in the title game. Marshall raced out to a 28-18 lead after one quarter and never looked back. (The Commandoes would return to the state tournament in 1961 when they would finish in 3rd place.) Only a 1959 loss to Waukegan in the super-sectional kept the squad from appearing in Champaign for four consecutive years.
