Biography:  (Chicago) Carver High School, second in the state tournament in 1962, returned to win the IHSA State Title in dramatic fashion.  With time running out in the title game, reserve guard Anthony Smedley hit his only shot of the game to give the Challengers a 53-52 victory over Centralia High School.  Joe Allen and Kenneth Maxey each had 18 points in the championship game.  Rober Cifax added 10 points.  Coach Larry Hawkins’ team finished 27-5 for the second straight season.
