2010-2011 Rock Island High School Boys’ Team
Year Inducted: 2024
Category: Teams
Schools / Organizations: Rock Island High School
Head Coach: Thom Sigel
Team Record: 30-3 (IHSA Class 3A State Champions)
Biography: Many of the key players from this team suffered an OT heartbreaker in the 2009 IHSA Super-sectional and a tough loss in the 2010 IHSA Sectional final, making two straight years of being knocked out by the eventual IHSA State 2nd place finisher. There was added motivation that came with the expectations for the season. They finished as the undefeated Western Big 6 champions, but lost their final regular season game to a highly-ranked (Chicago) Morgan Park HS team. That would be their last loss of the season as they won the IHSA Rock Island Regional and headed into the IHSA Peoria Sectional which had 5 of the top 10 ranked teams in the state. After beating Peoria High School 54-52 to win the Sectional, they advanced to the IHSA State Finals with a Super-sectional win at NIU. Rock Island defeated the Chicago Public League champs, Chicago Brooks HS, in the semis, and then won a 2 OT thriller over Centralia HS to capture the IHSA 3A State Championship. The 2011 Rocks set a school record for wins, finishing with a final record of 30-3, and became the first boys’ team from the Quad Cities to win a State Championship.
