Biography: The 2011-2012 Central Cougars boys’ basketball team started their season by winning their first 16 games, including blowing out the field at the (Effingham) St. Anthony Tournament with their four wins by over 15 ppg. The Stan Eagleson led bunch rolled through a rugged Cahokia Conference schedule with a 10-0 record going into the prestigious Mater Dei Holiday Tournament and escaping with a title win over the host team. The Cougars won each game by double figures. The lone loss of the season came in the Highland Shootout to Missouri power St. John Vianney of St. Louis 66-59. Central moved to 20-1 on the season by sweeping the Nashville Invitational Tournament with their second win of the season over Mater Dei in the title game. They swept through the Freeburg Regional with double-digit wins over Wesclin and Mater Dei. The Cougars beat Alton Marquette and Pana to claim the Vandalia Sectional title before edging Harrisburg 37-30 to punch their ticket to the state tournament. The Cougars took down Seton Academy by double figures in the semifinal before winning the State Championship with a 53-47 win over Normal University High. They ended the season with a 34-1 record where they won 27 games by at least 10 points.
