Biography:
It was a different kind of winter in 2002 for Ed Held. He had been the official scorekeeper for the Morrisonville High School basketball team and for all junior high games. He was a volunteer scorekeeper for road games. Then came his marriage to Cinda and Held moved to Strasburg.
There Held found himself continuing to help the local sports programs. He stayed close to basketball by keeping the scorebook for the junior high and the frosh-soph teams at Steward-Strasburg High School. He kept stats for the JV and varsity basketball teams.
Held enjoyed watching the students perform and felt interacting with them and their parents was a joy. He was missed Morrisonville, where he helped organize, conduct and manage the Mohawk Winter Classic. He had served as its statistician.
Held was a statistician for the Waverly Holiday Tournament and the Edinburg Frosh-Soph Tournament. He found time to keep complete statistics for every player in the MSM Conference, keeping track of all area team records and scores from 1986. He presented each coach with a copy at the conference meeting.
Held was assistant timekeeper for the Boys IHSA Class A state tournament in the last year it was in Champaign in 1995. He served as scorer and timer for Morrisonville volleyball and the Lady Mohawk Classic. He wrote weekly sports stories for the Morrisonville Times for all sports in junior and senior high school.
