Biography: Salen was basketball coach at Peoria High from 1916-43 and had a 409-182-2 record in the 25 seasons in which records were available. The ties stemmed from the fact that in his era only one overtime period was played to determine a winner.  Salen, who died in 1957, guided the Lions to the state finals seven times, placing second in 1927. They took third once and fourth twice. He also had a 141-61 record as head football coach.
