History

Illinois has a rich and storied history of basketball from the grade school levels all the way to the professional ranks. Since the inception of the organization, our goal has been to honor and preserve the great history of basketball in the Land of Lincoln. North to South and East to West, Illinois hoops is a force to be reckoned with and deserves a world-class facility where visitors of all ages are educated and entertained by legendary stories of this great game of ours.

Our goal of a physical location for the museum has taken us all over the state. Although we have been in a scoring position a few times, circumstances prevailed and our search continued. Due to the untiring efforts of our dedicated board members, we have finally hit the shot we’ve been looking for on April 30 of 2022 when we entered into an agreement with The Village of Bedford Park, Illinois that led us to the Wintrust Sports Complex, the official home of our museum.

Our first physical exhibit was unveiled on September 28th, 2022 during our Title IX 50th anniversary celebration. We continue taking positive steps to expand our presence in the impressive facility with new exhibits, community impact events, and more. None of this would be possible without our incredible donors and sponsors, and you have our neverending gratitude.

If you have any records, histories, memorabilia, or stories that you would like to share please contact us. We appreciate your contributions and all will be considered for placement in our physical location as well as here in our virtual environment.
