Biography: Former Western Illinois University head men’s basketball coach Jack Margenthaler played four years at Pinckneyville High School. During his junior season (1959-60), Margenthaler was named all-Southwest Egyptian Conference and honorable mention all-state. As a senior, Margenthaler was again accorded all-conference honors as well as first-team on the Centralia Holiday Tournament, first-team Southern Illinois All-Stars and first team all-state. Margenthaler was team captain as a senior and named most valuable player. From 1961-65, Margenthaler attended The University of Houston and started as off-guard his final three years. Margenthaler was captain and most valuable player for the Cougars as a senior.
