Biography: Dan McCarrell certainly put North Park College on the basketball maps of America before moving on to Mankato State University. McCarrell was a North Park team captain during the 1960-61 season. Then in 17 seasons coaching at North Park his teams compiled a 295-159 record. His North Park teams played in six NCAA tournaments and were 17-4. North Park won three consecutive NCAA Division III national titles in 1978, 1979, and 1980. North Park was the only team other than UCLA to win three consecutive NCAA basketball titles on any level. At the 1984 Division III NCAA Tournament McCarrell was named “Coach of the Decade.”
