Biography: Elmo “Mac” McClain compiled a 316-178 record coaching basketball at Aviston HS, Breese Mater Dei HS, and Quincy Christian Brothers HS (now Quincy Notre Dame HS).  After a collegiate playing career at Quincy College, Mac began his coaching career in the late 1940’s when Mater Dei came into existence replacing Breese St. Dominic and Carlyle St. Mary.  In 1959 when Christian Brothers opened, Mac moved back to Quincy.  Always interested in politics, Mac became an Illinois State Representative in 1964, giving up his coaching duties in 1967 due to his time commitments.  Sadly, McClain died on the statehouse floor June 15, 1972.
