Biography:

Gary Meyer of (Chicago Heights) Bloom Township coached varsity boys basketball for 27 years. Meyer came to Bloom when the Chicago Heights school was combined with Bloom Trail in 1996.

Prior to coaching in Illinois, Meyer directed Whiting (Indiana) to an 80-50 record from 1977-82, which included two conference and two sectional crowns. At the two Bloom schools, Meyer was 369-218 in 21 years and his final team in 2002-03 went 24-5. His teams recorded 19 conference and regular-season championships along with nine IHSA regionals and two sectionals. His 1988 and 2000 teams made the Class AA Elite Eight. Three times he was an IBCA District Coach of the Year.  Gary Meyer died on December 17, 2022 at the age of 75.
