Biography: Starting with the 1954-55 basketball season at Ashton Community High School, Dick Moeller kept statistics for the basketball team. In 1956-57, Moeller began his tenure as official scorekeeper at both home and away games and continued through the 1959-1960 season. In the fall of 1960, Moeller began running the time clock at home games and for about 13 years kept the scorebook on the road. Moeller continues to serve as a timer at home games, although his youngest daughter had graduated from high school 10 years earlier. During the late 1950’s and 1960’s, Moeller was a very active IHSA approved official in basketball, baseball and football. He traveled quite extensively during that period as a football and baseball official. For more that 34 years, Richard Moeller has been a friend of basketball, Just ask Ashton High School of his time and financial support. He even donated his garage as a concession stand when it was needed from 1955-58 for football when the present school and athletic field were being built. Richard Moeller died on April 9, 2008 at the age of 79.
