Lowell Oxford

Biography: Lowell Oxford is the oldest brother of one of the state’s greatest pair of coaching brothers. Along with Glen Oxford, Lowell has combined for 885 basketball victories through 1985. Lowell Oxford started 52 years of Oxford association with basketball coaching in the far tip of Southern Illinois. Lowell Oxford started his 22-year stint at Cave-In-Rock High School in 1933 with a 17-2 record. When Lowell Oxford retired in 1955 his record was 387-146 for the Hardin County School. Eleven times Cave-In-Rock won at least 19 games. Lowell Oxford’s 1951 team posted a 27-2 record. Oxford coached Glen Oxford at Cave-In-Rock from 1943-46 and provided the coaching foundation which would further the Oxford tradition in Illinois basketball.  Lowell Oxford died on September 28, 1988 at the age of 73.
