Greenville lost in the sectional to Collinsville at Vandalia in 1957. Parker scored 32 points and had 22 rebounds. This prompted Mac McGee of the Decatur Herald to write, “Arlen Parker, 6-3 center, was magnificent in defeat and was more than 6-7 Terry Bethel and 6-5 Tom Jackson could handle, outscoring and outrebounding both.” Parker set 13 Greenville records including most offensive rebounds in a game – 20, most defensive rebounds in a game – 17, and most interceptions – 7. Parker’s three-year scoring average was 20.9 ppg at Greenville. Upon graduation from Greenville, Parker received a full scholarship to The University of Michigan.
