Biography: With all the great success of Mount Vernon High School boys’ basketball over the years, many people are surprised to find out the all-time winningest basketball coach in school history is Sara Rennie. Rennie was the varsity girls’ basketball coach from 1976-77, when she started 8-6, until 2008-09. She went 603-305 for a winning percentage of .664 in 33 seasons. Success came quickly with a 15-4 record and IHSA Regional championship her second year, 19-6 and a IHSA Sectional title in her third year and 23-2 with its first South Seven Conference title and third IHSA Regional crown in her fourth season. Mount Vernon won 20 regionals – including 10 straight from 1993-2002 – and 3 sectionals under Rennie. She also had 18 20-win seasons and 8 South Seven titles.
