Biography: Art Sadtler coached Rockford East High School from 1955-1964, compiling a 159-68 record.  His teams claimed IHSA Regional Championships in 1955, 1958, 1960, 1961, and 1963.  His 1961 team reached the Elite Eight.  Under Sadtler, East High ruled the Big Eight Conference in 1958, 1959, and 1961.  Art coached IBCA Hall of Famers and All-American college players William Erickson and Skip Thoren.  At East High, he also coached football, track, and golf.  In 1963 Art was named the athletic director of the school.  As a player, he had the distinction of playing in the 1935 state tournament with Rockford High School.  Art retired from education in 1975 but remained active in the Rockford area.  The youth basketball league there is named after him.  Art authored a children’s book Animal Potluck in 1993.  Art Sadtler passed away during 1998.
