Biography: Bill Smith had an outstanding career from 1971-75 when he led Benton High School to a 91-17 record. An all-state player, Smith was an all-around athlete who earned 14 Varsity letters. He was a high school All-American in his senior year when Benton compiled a 27-1 record. Twice Smith was an all-Centralia Holiday Tournament selection and also a two-year honoree in the Benton Tournament. Smith participated in the 1975 IBCA All-Star game. He scored a career total of 1,307 points for the Rangers.
Following high school, Smith played four seasons at Georgia Tech University from 1975-79. Bill played in 105 career games, scored 679 points, grabbed 209 rebounds, gave 189 assists, and led the team with 112 steals. The Yellow Jackets were 53-45 in those seasons.
