Biography:
When it comes to success, Chuck Westendorf is an experienced veteran. He spent 24 years as an assistant coach at Peoria Manual before moving to Peoria Central in the 2002-03 season. He also had a seven-year stint as head coach at Washington.
Westendorf teams won six IHSA Class AA championships – two with Central in 2003 and 2004 and four straight with Manual from 1994-97. The Rams were crowned national champions in 1997. They also finished second in the state in 1991 and third in 1986 and 1988.
Washington was 126-62 during his head coaching tenure. His teams had four 20-win seasons, won four regionals and made two trips to the sectional finals. From 1968-70, Westendorf was the coach at Morton Junior High School and he guided two teams to the state finals. He served as an assistant coach at Moline High School.
Westendorf was a member of the Bradley basketball team from 1963-68 and is in the school’s Hall of Fame. He was an assistant coach for the IBCA All-Star games in 1979 and 1993. He has organized, conducted and lectured at summer basketball camps since 1970 and started the Westy-Doty camps in 2001 with IBCA Hall of Fame coach Steve Doty of Washington. He is involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was the coordinator of the Hersey Hawkins Children’s Miracle Network.
