Biography:

David had a 502-190 career record in coaching stops at (Palatine) Fremd High School, Mahomet-Seymour High School and in Arizona. He had a 72-45 mark as a boys’ coach in Arizona and a 15-11 mark in one year as boys’ coach at Mahomet-Seymour.

David led the girls’ program at Palatine Fremd for 18 years, earning an IHSA Class 4A state championship (2020), two IHSA runner-up finishes (2015, 2016), an IHSA third-place finish( 2024) and an IHSA fourth-place showing (2017). His teams captured 11 IHSA Regional titles.  The teams won the MSL championship in 14 of his final 15 seasons.

Dave was an IBCA Coach of the Year 13 times during his career.  Yates was recognized by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) as one of eight National High School Spirit of Sport section winners in 2024.

Sadly, David Yates lost his battle to brain cancer on June 11, 2024.  He died at the age of 54.
