Biography: James was the head boys’ basketball coach at Evanston High School from 1906-1920. Several publications from that era consider James as the finest high school coach in Illinois during the first two decades of the 20th Century. His teams earned a 112-31 record. He guided Evanston to the first-ever State Tournament held in 1908. He led them to 3 titles during the first 5 years of the Suburban League. His team also recorded a championship in the famous Stagg Tournament in 1917.
