Biography:

In his 30 years of coaching grade school basketball, Robert Gasaway never had a losing season.  Gasaway’s overall record was 704-176.  He won 80% of his games that he coached for the Mount Pulaski Bruins (19 years) and the Lake Fork Lakers (11 years).  Six times Gasaway was named the IBCA District Coach of the Year.  His 1980 state championship team was 25-0.  Both his 7A nad 8A teams placed third in the state with 23-2 records.  His 1990 team was third and his 1987 and 1989 teams fourth.  In 19 seasons at his hometown school, Mt Pulaski, Gasaway’s team made 19 state tourney appearances.  The 1980’s belonged to Gasaway’s Bruins as they collected five IESA state titles and 13 state appearances and rattled off a 44 game winning streak.  Gasaway led Mt Pulaski to 90 tourney and conference title titles.  His teams dominated the Logan County Tournament with 24 titles, eight runner-ups and four thirds in 19 years. If you played Gasaway’s Mt Pulaski teams you prepared for a full court press.  Robert Gasaway died on May 22, 2018 at the age of 80.
