Biography: Before 1986, MJ “Mac” McCarty had a lifetime coaching record of 713-421.  In 39 seasns that included stops at Hamline University, Hermantown School (MN), Camp Perry Naval Station, and finally (Winnetka) North Shore Country Day High School; his teams produced 9 league championships, 7 tournament championships and 10 second place league finishes.  At NSCD, McCarty served as both the varsity and frosh-soph coach from 1947-59.  From 1959-74 he limited his duties to the varsity.  From 1974-86, he served as only the frosh-soph coach.  His IHSA record is 654-390.  Mac has been inducted into the Illinois Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1978, the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Hamline University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978.  MJ McCarty died on December 28, 2000.
