Dick Ruggles

Biography:

Dick Ruggles followed a high school career at Quincy, Massachusetts with a college career at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.  After his playing days were over, Ruggles still saw the inside of many gymnasiums.

The teacher/coach at Nashville High School distinguished himself as a basketball official.  Ruggles served the state’s basketball populace as an official for more than 25 years.

During those years, Ruggles whistled nine IHSA Regionals, seven Sectionals, and five Super-sectionals.  In 1980, 1981, and 1983, Ruggles was selected to work the Class A boys’ basketball tournament in Champaign.  The 1981 championship game ruled by Madison, 58-47, over Dunlap, came under Ruggles’ watchful eyes.

He also served the IBCA as an official for its all-star games in Peoria and has worked 14 Christmas Tournaments including Freeburg, Centralia, and Carbondale.
